    --  J W Roby, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/29184668/person/12265917540

I found a James Philpot, son of Jesse R and Jemima Philpot in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, but it was in 1850 and he was already 16 years old, making him 20 years older than the James Isaac reported here.  But the parents' names match.

The Find a Grave memorial for Jesse Robert Philpot and Jemima Deason lists their son James as James Marion.  This James Marion was born in 1834, matching the 1850 census record in Pontotoc, Mississippi, not 1856, as for James Isaac.  So the Roby genealogy must be wrong on the parents of James Isaac.  There could be more complex errors here also.

The generational connection was rectified when I found a genealogy that had attached James Isaac's death certificate.  This certificate reports that his parents were Mikager (spelled Micajer and otherwise in various sources, for the original name Micajah), a son of Jessee Robert and Jemima.  So Roby has skipped a generation in this line to report James Isaac as the son of his grandparents.

Several trees have made this error -- ironically, even the Murphy family genealogy where I found James Isaac's death certificate posted that gave the parents' names.  Is there something else eerie and macabre going on?  I don't think so.  Just a generational error that got copied by other genealogies.

Here is a transcription of the information on the death certificate.
