William's middle initial in the 1920 census is unclear, being a writeover with an H and an S.  It is hard to tell which was the original and which the writeover correction.  Thanks to the 1880 census above (found after the 1900 census), we can confirm that the middle initial in S.

There was a another William Long, full name William Wiley Long, born in 1870, who became a physician and lived and died in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas.  It appeared at first that this was the same William Long who was the son of Elizabeth Long Christian, but that turned out not to be the case.

It appears that our William Long continued to live in Cass County.  In 1910, he was enumerated in the home of his sister Lea Tate and her husband.  Since William is in the Tate household, it appears that their mother died after the 1900 census and before the 1910.

In the 1920 census he is still single at age 59.  His aunt Eliza Dickerson, also single, is living in his household.  I have not figured out how she is his aunt.  Since his mother was named Elizabeth, she is not likely William's mother's sister with the name Eliza (a nickname or short form of Elizabeth).  She could be a wife or sister-in-law of a blood uncle.  Eliza Dickerson is only 15 years older than William.

There is a Dickerson family living next door.  There is some indication that Elizabeth Long's maiden name was Dickerson.  In fact one or two genealogies now report this.  This makes sense with the configuration we know and the families around them in the censuses.
