    Note that the reported age does not match the reported birth date.  First 28 years would make is back to June 1899, then subtract the 9 months, that puts us back to either September 1888, 16 days would make it the 2nd of the month.  Other sources report his birth date as 1 September 1877.  So the age would still be off by one year.  Figuring birth as reported on 1 September 1899, his age at death would be 27 years, 9 months, 16 days.

    "Funeral services for John Harkins will be held at the Baptist church at Delaware Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.  Rev W H Jenkins of the Methodist church will be in charge.  Interment will be made in the Elmwood Cemetery in Coffeyville."

    "Harkins Burial Here Today - The body of John Harkins of Delaware was to be laid to rest in Elmwood cemetery here late this afternoon.  The funeral cortege was expected to arrive shortly after 4:00 o'clock from Nowata, where the obsequies were held this afternoon.  Harkins was shot to death while robbing a store at Collinsville, Okla, last Friday morning.  A brother of the deceased, McKinley Harkins, is  buried in Elmwood."
