In the 1860 census, in the same area, Mary Ann is not in the family.  Two more children are reported.  She must have died after the birth of the last child here in about 1854,  She may have died in childbirth.

In 1870, the child matching Nance iis named elizabeth.  This is consistent with other family and public records giving us her name as Nancy Elizabeth.  She has a stepmother here, Ellen.  And the oldest daughter Susan along with the two younger girls Bell and Amelia may be Ellen's daughters from a first marriage.

In the 1880 census, Nancy was reported in her own household, as the wife of James R Conley.  The b irth dte of their oldest child Mary Ann, reported in the Winter-Conley family Bible, is 1 August 1874.  This suggests that James and Nancy Elizabeth married in 1873.  In the next two listed households are her brother William Thomas Winter and her father and stepmother, Stephen and Helen WInter.

Birth dates of parents in this 1880 census are uncertain, because the entries are inconsistent.  For the children, most have only the individual's birth state, and no separate entry in the field for Mother or Father's state of birth.  So it seems we are to assume the states reported in their parents' individual records.

But on others it seems the enumerator followed the common practice of drawing down the last entered state in that same column. like a ditto.  And on a couple of the parents, not all fields are fulfilled, which we usually take to mean the information was not known.
