In the 1870 census report for Stephen's family, Stephen has a wife named Helen.  Ellen was born in Alabama, whereas Mary Ann Carter was born in Tennessee..

Three new children, also named Winter in this census, appear in the household.  The oldest is Susan, age 23, older than Stephen's daughter Elizabeth (Nancy).  Susan and the two youngest, Bell and Amelia F, are Ellen's children from a previous marriage to Granville Fitzpatrick.  No information has been found on Stephen's adoption of these three Fitzpatrick children.  The enumerator may just have given them their steprfather's name without further enquiry.

The 1880 census indeed confirms that Lucy Belle is Stephen's stepdaughter.  In the 1870 census for this family, the child matching William is named Monroe and Nancy is enumerated under her middle name of Elizabeth..

Old Shiloh Cemetery, Cooke County, Texas

I took a few photos of what's left of Dexter town and of the Old Shiloh Cemetery in Dexter.  He said this cemetery is in really bad shape, overgrown with trees, bushes, etc, the worst he had seen.  The trees are pushing over what stones are there.  There are quite of few graves there, a lot of them only marked with sandstone rocks that have sunken to the point they are getting hard to see.  [The land this cemetery is on is now owned by Jerry Perry.]

The cemetery is located 1 mile north of Dexter on County Road 100.  You take County Road 103 in Dexter to County Road 100 and go east 8/10ths of a mile back east and it's way off the road on the left and not very visible because it's in a grove of trees.
