Here we see that family sources report the death of Maggie occurred inNewbern, Tennessee, in about 1877.  Yet family sources also reportthat two of her children were born in Arkansas, in 1872 and 1876.  The1870 Dyer County, Tennessee, census reports James M born in Tennessee, which makes sense, since they are still in the county where theymarried and are still living.  Yet later censuses report both him andlater brother Robert C (born 1876) as born in Arkansas.  This periodof the family's life is confusing and family members are searching forcorroborating evidence to clarify and fill in the gaps.

Perhaps Maggie actually died in Arkansas, and was taken home forburial?

Robert C Brinkley appears to be a child of the same James and MaggieBrinkley who earlier had a son named Robert, who must have died afterthe 1870 census in Dyer County, Tennessee.  It has been proposed thatthey named the later Robert C after the lost child.  We find Robert Cin later censuses, married to Beulah, living in Johnson County, Texas, where the family finally settled.
