Notes

  • Family sources list her as Ocy.  It appears the actual formal name wasOsa, as recorded in the 1910 and 1920 censuses.  She is listed in 1920as Osa I Jenkins.  This matches the pattern of the name Asa beingcommonly pronounced Acy in the Jenkins family.

"Everett married Ocy McClanahan, whose parents are believed to havelived on a farm west of Marlow.  Everett subsequently moved toMountain View where he later worked with his brother Ben in his drycleaning shop."
--  Harold Keith Christian, Jenkins Family History, private document.

In 1930, Osa is listed as head of the household and a widow, living inEarlsboro, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.  This seems to conflict, however, with the information about James Everett Jenkins, which I hadfound before locating this 1930 census record.  The California DeathIndex indicates he moved to California, supposedly with his family, and died in Los Angeles in 1963.

I found Everett in a different Oklahoma location in the 1930 census. He is working at his old trade of tailoring, as reported in the 1910census.

It looks like they divorced.  However they are back together later andthey are listed together in the Oklahoma City Directory for 1936 and1937.  And though in 1940, Everett is reported as divorced, they seemto be together later.  At least they are in the same area and areburied in the same cemetery in Orange County, as well as their sonHarry Carroll Jenkins.

In the mid 1950s, Everett's address was in Bellflower, Los AngelesCounty, California.  the family notes that tell us this do not includedetails about Osa and the children, information which I obtained fromcensuses later.  Osa's birth date on her gravestone is wrong.  It hasthe year-only birth date of 1889.  But her California Death recordreports the date as 6 Oct 1887.  I submitted this to her memorial onFind a Grave, and the correct full date has been added, but theerroneous year of birth still reflects the grave marker.  The updatedmemorial belpw shows this correction and added information Isubmitted.
