    John's name in the 1900 census was misentered by the enumerator as George D.  Perhaps under the subconscious infoluence of John's brother George, whose household was next door, which was entered just before John and Mollie.  His great granddaughter makes this comment on the record on Ancestry.com.

    "This man's real name is John Dilling Harkins Sr, b 25 Nov 1860 - he's my great-grandfather."

    John is buried where many of his family are found, in Elmwood Cemetry, Coffeyville, Kansas.  There is no stone, and the only memorial on Find a Grave is for his son, with dates of 1897-1927.

    Obituary of John Dilling Harkins Sr

    John Dilling Harkins, 91, resident of Coffeyville area for more that 80 years, died Friday night [20 June 1952] at the home of his daughter, Mrs Roy H Myers, Ramona, Oklahoma. He had been ill several weeks

    Funeral services will be at 11 Tuesday [24 June 1952] morning at the Delaware Baptist Church. Afterwards the body will be brought to Coffeyville for burial in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery.

    Born Nov 25, 1860, in Gilmer County, Ga, Mr Harkins came to the Coffeyville area with his parents ar the age of nine. He was married to this late wife, the former Mary Ann Patchett, in 1886. She died following an automobile accident in 1930.
