Lucinda Taylor
Little is known of Lucinda. As mentioned above the 1860 Cass County Census shows her
age as 36 (Birthdate ca 1824) and her birth place as Mississippi.
According to tradition of the Day family, one of Nancy Ann's (and Lucinda's)
grandmothers journeyed by small boat from Ireland to the United States, taking six months to
make the trip (possibly including intermediate stopovers).
The names of Lucinda's parents have yet to be established.

In the Day Family History, as reported by Harold K Christian in the Jenkins Family History, reoports further:
"The Taylor family lived among the Indians when the children were small. He was a large man, well proportioned and seven feet tall; and he was well respected by the Indians."

Mr Taylor's name is not certain. If Louisa Taylor was a sister to Lucinda, Nancy and Daniel, their father was born in Mississippi. That does not seem likely, however. Meanwhile, the census reports that Louisa's MOTHER was born in Ireland. Louisa may have been an aunt or cousin of Lucinda Amanda.

There is information in the Day Family that the grandmother (not the mother) of Lucinda, Nancy and Daniel was born in Ireland. It is possible that Louisa was an aunt, rather than a sister. This would likely mean that Louisa was a sister of the father of Lucinda, Nancy and Daniel.
Harold Christian mentions several Taylor families had migrated directly to Mississippi from New England in this period. I have found some others. No definite connection has been made with other Day and Taylor families in Mississippi around the same time.
Family tradition persists that this Taylor line was related to President Zachary Taylor. I heard this from as early as I can remember. My grandfather Joseph Asa told me this among other matters of family history.
However, the lineage of that family is clear down to Richard Strother Taylor, born in 1826, the same year as Lucinda Amanda Taylor's husband Joseph Sanford Jenkins. If they were kin, they were not in Zachary's direct line, but descend from an earlier common ancestor, which I have not yet connected. I have followed some good clues and worked with some Zachary Taylor researchers, but we have found no connection. This Genealogy includes Zachary Taylor's family for comparison.
