James and Polly Briscoe's first child born in Arkansas was Martha, age 12, so born about 1838 They also have a daughter Mary O born in Alabama in about 1836. This means they moved to Arkansas about 1837, matching the dates for William G Dorsey (Dossey). Polly's father next door seems to have moved with them. The last child of William Dorsey (Dossey) next door, Sarah, is 14 and born in Alabama. This means William moved his family to Arkansas after Sarah was born in about 1836, matching the information from the Briscoe census.
The family name may be Dorsey instead of Dossey, as appears on the marriage certificate.
In 1850 living next door to James W Briscoe and his wife Polly (Mary) Briscoe is William G Dorsey, who appears to be Mary's father. Two teenaged daughters are still in the household of widowed William Dorsey.

William G Dorsey 46 M Farmer b SC [born abt 1804]
Elizabeth Dorsey 16 AL [born abt 1804]
Sarah Dorsey 14 M AL [born abt 1836]
From 1850, there are Dorseys that live near the Briscoes, and Dorsey is a given name among the Briscoe line in later generations.
A couple of houses away is also Joseph Dorsey, who appears to be Mary's younger brother. Some genealogies also report his last name as Dossey. He is reported to have died in Limestone, Texas. Their parents moved on to San Antonio and died there.

William G Dorsey 5mos M Arkansas [born abt June 1850]
But a marriage record appears to match this William G, with the name William G Dossey, born in 1790, which matches the age of William G Dorsey, who lives next door to Mary Dossey Briscoe in Sevier County, Arkansas. The birth in South Carolina also matches. "Dossey" or "Dawsey," as the name is sometimes found with the phonetic spelling, matches the Southern genteel pronunciation of the name spelled Dorsey. The spelling of the actual proununciation of Dorsey led to it becoming a seprate surname spelled Dossey.

William G Dossey
Gender Male
Birth 1790 SC
Some family genealogies report his full name as William Greenberry Dossey. Though the following marriage record appears to be for Mary's father, and has a middle initial G, it seems odd that his middle name is Greenberry, when this is the mainden name of his wife.
William Dossey
Birth 1787 in South Carolina
Death 1860 in San Antonio, Bexar, Texas
Parents:
William Dossey 1760 - 1792
Mary Greenberry 1767 - 1792
Marriage to Mrs. William G (Cherokee Maiden) Dossey 1809 Morgan, Alabama

Mary Dorsey/Dossey died before 1854, when James married his second wife, the widow Margaret Parker Nauls/Knaules/Knolles in Sevier County, Arkanass. Some genealogies report Mary's date of death as the year 1852, but provide no documentation. Some report the year as 1851, again with no documentation. I have found no record on her death or burial, but it would have been in Sevier County, Arkansas.
