Notes

  • Ropers and Keiths were kin at several levels.  This Mary Jane Roper, born in about 1796, married Martin Keith.  There was a later Mary Jane Roper, born in about 1824, who mother was a Keith, Sarah Ann Keith, according to some genealogies, daughter of a George Keith.  Her mother was Margaret S Mackey, whose father was named Joel Mackey.

The Mary Jane Roper born in 1824 married a Sanders D Caruth.  Some genealogies appear to have confused some of these different Keiths and Ropers with similar names.  I am still working on this.

We have a census report of her and Martin with their family in 1850 and 1860.  for full details and discussions see Notes for Martin Keith (born 1792).
