Mike Taylor reports that he has found documents indicating that Green D Mullins joined his two brothers James P and George Ross, as well as one of George's sons, Martin B, to fight for the Union in the Civil War.  Many North Georgians chose the northern side in the US Civil War.  These Mullins Unionists were listed in the roster for Col James G Brown's 1st Georgia State Troops Volunteers, and later in Howard's 1st Georgia US Infantry.  Another brother William F Mullins, was a Captain in the 43rd Georgia Infantry of the Confederacy.

In 1870, we find Green and his family still in Pickens County, Georgia.  Their Post Office is reported as Jasper.  Here Green's wife is Jane, age 30, thus born about 1840.  Jane would be Green's 2nd wife.  It is thought that Elizabeth Caldwell Green, mother of Green's children in these two censuses, died in or before 1868.  But Elizabeth's son Brantley doe sin t include the name of Jerrome in the list of his brothers (see note below).

Green's middle initial D here stands for Dolphus, which was a nickname for his proper middle name Adolphus.
--  Charlotte Linn Claborn, RootsWeb Message to Orville B Jenkins

Some have questioned Charlotte's aassertion, and feel the records indicate the actual name was Dolphus.  His grave has his name as Green D Mullins, as do some censues..

The two forms of Green's second son's name seem to indicate that he is Christopher Columbus Mullins, which is reported by some sources.  The birthplace of Green is now reported as South Carolina instead of Georgia as in 1860.  The age of Elias in these two censuses does not match, as often we find.  Two additional children were born (at least that survived) after the 1860 census and before Elizabeth died.  Reports estimate that Elizabeth died before 1868.  But I have thought it likely that Jerrome is also Elizabeth's son.  Details of her death are vague.  Perhaps she died in childbirth with Jerrome.  On the other hand, since Jerrome's name is not in the list of brothers that Brantley records, he could be Jane's son.

Note that Pearson's middle initial in the census is J.  Charlotte Claborn reports that family sources indicate it was B, and further, his brother Brantley reported that his name was McPierson, rather than Pearson.

"Doctor Brantley Mullen in his eastern Cherokee application stated his brothers names were:  Christopher Columbus Mullins, Elias Mullow Mullins, McPierson B. Mullins, and that he had no sisters."
--  Charlotte Linn Claborn, RootsWeb Message to Orville B Jenkins

Based largely on this record, I am considering that Jerrome is the son of Green and his second wife Jane.  Going by his age in the 1870 census and the resulting estimated birth year, this would also mean that Elizabeth died before 1862.
