Notes

  • The first census in which I found Isaac Green was the 1850 census.  Ifound Isaac Green with the right dates, birth places and initial ofthe wife's name to indicate this is Isaac Green the son of Daniel JohnGreen, son of Isaac Green.

We knew they moved to Hall County, Georgia, and this familyinformation documents that.  Since this census gives us only theinitials of all but the head of the household, it is not very helpfulwith the names of Isaac and Matilda's children.  But the ages mightserve as clues to further sources.

The enumerator's letters ar formed in odd ways, and some differentones look very similar.  The second chdl looks liek I M, but it isprobably meant to be J M, which matches James M in the list ofchildren found above and in other sources.

    Isaac Green 49 M Farmer $750 Real Estate b South Carolina [b abt 1801]
M Green 42 F South Carolina Cannot read or write [b abt 1808, matcheswife Matilda Jackson]
W J Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [unmatched in family genealogy lists ofchildren, oldest child reported as Tyree]
J M Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [close to James M, but initial lookslike I instead of J]
    T R Green 14 F Georgia [possibly Frances L Green]
T B Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [matches Thomas Benton]
M E Green 10 F Georgia [known only by initials]
    A Green 10 F Georgia [Armilda]
    D O Green 6 M Georgia [D Oliver or Oliver D]
Leroy McCutchin 2 M b Georgia [last name appears to be Green,McCutchin middle name]

Initials are hard to distinguish in this enumerator's hand.  Forinstance the first letter of Isaac's name is very similar to the firstinitial of the child T B.  Children W H and T M appear to be twins. We find an interesting additional person in the 2-year-old LeroyMcCutchin.  In genealogies and the 1860 census, we see that this childhave McCutchin as a middle name and is the son of Isaac and Matilda.

Next door is an older Daniel Green, age 69, who is likely Isaac'sfather.  The second person listed here is also 69 and has the initialM, which matches the listing in some family genealogies which tell usDaniel John Green's wife was named M Unknown.  With only initials, Icannot easily tell who the other persons are in Daniel's household.

    Oliver Green 14 M b Georgia [b abt 1846]
    L M Green 12 F Georgia [b abt 1848]

We now have the name of Armilda, listed as only A in 1850.  Note thather age is now only 7 years more than in 1850.
