Notes

  • The first census in which I found Isaac Green was the 1850 census.  I found Isaac Green with the right dates, birth places and initial of the wife's name to indicate this is Isaac Green the son of Daniel John Green, son of Isaac Green.

We knew they moved to Hall County, Georgia, and this family information documents that.  Since this census gives us only the initials of all but the head of the household, it is not very helpful with the names of Isaac and Matilda's children.  But the ages might serve as clues to further sources.

The enumerator's letters ar formed in odd ways, and some different ones look very similar.  The second chdl looks liek I M, but it is probably meant to be J M, which matches James M in the list of children found above and in other sources.

1850 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, 21 August, page 707 (scan page 353), Hse/Fam #83
    Isaac Green 49 M Farmer $750 Real Estate b South Carolina [b abt 1801]
M Green 42 F South Carolina Cannot read or write [b abt 1808, matches wife Matilda Jackson]
W J Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [unmatched in family genealogy lists of children, oldest child reported as Tyree]
J M Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [close to James M, but initial looks like I instead of J]
    T R Green 14 F Georgia [possibly Frances L Green]
T B Green 12 M Laborer Georgia [matches Thomas Benton]
M E Green 10 F Georgia [known only by initials]
    A Green 7 F Georgia [Armilda]
    D O Green 6 M Georgia [D Oliver or Oliver D]
Leroy McCutchin 2 M b Georgia [last name appears to be Green, McCutchin middle name]

Initials are hard to distinguish in this enumerator's hand.  For instance the first letter of Isaac's name is very similar to the first initial of the child T B.  Children W H and T M appear to be twins.  We find an interesting additional person in the 2-year-old Leroy McCutchin.  In genealogies and the 1860 census, we see that this child have McCutchin as a middle name and is the son of Isaac and Matilda.

Next door is an older Daniel Green, age 69, who has been determined to be Isaac's father.  The second person listed here is also 69 and has the initial M, which matches the listing in some family genealogies which tell us Daniel John Green's wife was named M Unknown.  With only initials, I cannot easily tell who the other persons are in Daniel's household.

    Oliver Green 14 M b Georgia [b abt 1846]
    L M Green 12 F Georgia [b abt 1848]

We now have the name of Armilda, listed as only A in 1850.  Note that her age is now only 7 years more than in 1850.

Two of his sons are living nearby.  Thomas Benton is next door and two doors away from Thomas is Tyree.

Earlier censuses had names for only the heads of households.  I found the 1830 and 1840 census entries for Isaac, his brother Thomas and their father Daniel, in Hall County, Georgia, through a family genealogy online in September 2009.

1830 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, page 125
    Isaac Green Males  1 age 20-30, 2 5-10
    Females  1 20-30

1840 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, District #507, page 65
    Isaac Green Males  1 age 30-40, 1 10-15, 2 5-10, 1 under 5
    Females  1 30-40, 1 5-10, 1 under 5

Isaac is listed in the court records of Hall County, Georgia, dated 8 April 1859, as receiving $77 as part of his distribution share of the estate of Daniel Green.

"I have my great grandmother's supplemental application.  Her name was Fannie Bryant Bruce.  Her father was Hardy Bryant.  Hardy's mom was Fannie Green, daughter of Daniel Green & Mary Green.  There was the name Mashack in the old Green Bible, said William Bryant, brother of Hardy Bryant.  They were rejected on their Cherokee blood, but I know they were Cherokee.  Fannie Green was born in 1808, had a brother Isaac 1801, John 1804, Thomas 1806, Fannie 1808, Daniel 1810, Elizabeth 1812, Andrew Jackson 1815, Toliver 1817, Enoch 1820, Isona 1823."
--  Gary Cruce, message on profile for Mary Green, wife of Daniel John Green, on OurFamily genealogy, 10 July 2015, http://www.ourfamtree.org/browse.php?pid=60396

A couple of old undocumented genealogies report only the year 1863 for Isaac's death.
