  • MICAJAH BARNETT (JOSEPH, JOHN, WILLIAM) was born May 13, 1760, and died Unknown. He married JENE. She was born May 12, 1762, and died Unknown. Name 2: Micajah Cicero Barnett
--  Descendants Of John Barnett And Catherine Farrar, http://geocities.com/highlandcelt/BarnettFamily.htm?20089

Another genealogy reports the many children of Micajah and Jane/Jene.

One Barnett descendant refers to a second wife, of whom I have not found further information.  This could be the mother of Javan, the youngest child named in Micajah's will, whom some genealogies report (without documentation) as born 5 July 1816.  Jane Glen Barnett died in 1812, so Javan had a different mother.

"I found this page when looking for information on Micajah Barnett Sr.  His son, Micajah Barnett Jr was my grandmother's great-grandfather according to our family records.  I only have 6 children listed for Micajah Sr, but have learned there were up to 14 in the mixed family after the second marriage.  Information on the mother of Micajah Barnett Jr would be very welcome and appreciated as it would help me trace the line between myself and the family."
--  Jennifer Fishburn, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 6 February 2012

Note that this list has one child named Joroyall, b 1802 and another Jorial b 1808.  These names are variations of the same name.  But perhaps this list is correct that there were two children.  Other lists have only one child listed with a variation of this name.  None of the earlier ones I found had wives of this child.  One difference is in the death date, which supports the idea that there were two children with these similar names.  This source does not give sources for these birth and death dates.  The list also includes a Joseph, which would be a duplicate or Joroyall/Jorial.

Another genealogy, for instance, has mostly the same children, but has only Joroyal and no Jorial separately, with no dates.  That list also adds Janylhen Barnett, and leaves out Micajah Jr. and Joseph.

Micajah was recorded in the 1790 and 1800 censuses in Spartanburg County/District of South Carolina.  Several members of his families are in nearby households, including his father Joseph and his Uncle Edward.  The Barnett name is spelled with only one T in the 1790 census.

Micajah is buried in the Camp Croft State Park, near Spartanburg, South Carolina.  The Cemetery goes by different names, the Barnett Family Cemetery, Cedar Springs Cemetery or Cedar Springs Baptist Cemetery.

In 1810, Micajah is the only Barnett on his page of the census for Spartanburg County, South Carolina, and none on nearby pages.  The specific location is uncertain.

The following information is mentioned in several Barnett source and genealogies:
Micajah was a Baptist minister and served in the Revolutionary War.  The original inscription on his headstone in Camp Croft State Park, Spartanburg, S.C., stated this.  Evidently the original stone for Micajah Cicero Barnett was stolen.  A new stone was dedicated in 1997. His new stone reads:
    Micajah Cicero Barnett

Micajah's will, recorded written 19 September 1836, gives us the names of some of his children.  Micajah died 9 January 1837.  Records indicate he was buried the day he died.  His wife is mentioned but not named.
