As often seems to be the case, the 1900 census reports one yeardifference in the birth year for both Thomas and Mary.  Thomas' knownbirth date from family sources is 2 December 1857, Mary's 20 January1857.

The census reports that Thomas and Mary were running a hotel.  In hisJenkins history, Harold Christian comments:
"The family suffered the loss of Great Grandfather Joseph Sanford on26 May 1893.... By this point in time Joseph's brother-in-law TomChapel and Joseph's sister Lide were running a hotel in Marlow.  TheMarlow Magnet, Marlow's first newspaper, contains advertisements ofChapel's Hotel in many of its 1893 issues. (Copies of issues of thispaper are on file in the library of the Oklahoma Historical Societynear the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.)"

They moved to Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas (south of Ft Worth)before the 1910 census.

In these censuses, the family name is spelled Chappel.  But I notethat in the city directories, it is spelled Chapel, while there areother families whose name is spelled Chappel.  This seems to indicatethat they spelled the name as Chapel.

The WWI draft registration of their son Marley Ward Chapel alsoconfirms the spelling of the family name, as well as the Tesxas DeathIndex record of Tom's death.
