There are two memorials on Find a Grave for Alvis, one in Chickasha,Oklahoma (Chickasaw Nation), where his second wife and at least onechild are also buried.  The other is in their former home area ofClarinda, Page County, Iowa, from which they moved to Missouri thenIndian Territory.  Both memorials have the same date of death.  TheIowa marker has no dates.

Alvis served the Union under two enlistments in the Civil War, firstin the Missouri 14th Regiment for 6 months in 1861.  Then he joinedthe 23rd Iowa Infantry, in September 1862.  He served in both cases asstaff surgeon.

I note that the Iowa memorial reports he died in Iowa.  This appearsto be part of his military records.  This is strange, since his wifeJane and their sons Alvis H Jr, and George died and are buried inChickasha, Oklahoma.  Another son Theophilus H East also lived therefor many years before he went to Western areas and Mexico to serve asa doctor his last few years, before passing away in Colorado.
